Multi-tonal threads are a wonderful addition to our embroidery thread collection, but if you are like many embroiders, you will purchase this fantastic product, and then the threads will wait for months in your stash waiting for a design that will suit them. Below are a few tips and suggestions for picking the right designs for multi-tonal threads.
Don’t use multi-tonal thread on large chunks of plain embroidery. One of the most common errors associated with multi-tonal thread is using it on a large area of embroidery. The effect that you will end up with is strips running across your embroidery. Instead, look for feature spots such as borders that can be highlighted with this unique thread.
Do choose designs that are linear in nature. Designs that work perfectly with multi-tonal threads are redwork, outline, sketch stitch, stipping, quilting stitches, and border designs. Alternatively look for designs that are an open weave effect to highlight the thread.
Mettler threads have a wonderful selection of multi-tonal threads Mettler Silk Finish Multi. With 54 different colour combinations, there is one to suit all embroiders needs.
