    The Trends...

Comfortable and Cozy – Oversized sweater coats and pullovers, the classic cardigan sweater; oversized silk T’s with skinny pants.

Slouchy trousers, soft textural fabrics and neutral colors add up to a relaxed weekend style.

Structure – Tailored pieces with exaggerated details, strong shoulders, and menswear fabrics combine with simple separates. Menswear blazers.

Ladylike Luxe – Dresses in soft drapey fabrics, printed dresses, romantic blouses, and detailed suits and skirts. Silk blouses.

Sparkle – Sequins on sweaters, dresses, and skirts add an evening touch to classic separates. Jewel and beaded embellishment continues on necklines, sweaters, jackets, skirts, shoes, and handbags. Bangles, cuffs, cocktail rings, or a great statement necklace add instant evening pizzazz to simple basics.

City – Sleek and shiny black…worn from head-to-toe. Visualize a sophisticated black coat, worn over a sleek black dress, accessorized with a chain necklace, oversized black sunglasses, a large black bag, black opaque hosiery, and black platform pumps…or a black leather biker jacket worn over black skinny jeans and black leather boots.

Country — Plaid coats and separates, leather and suede, Sherpa and plush fabrics play off a color palette of earth tones, gray, and neutrals. Black denim.

    Fabric and Texture Mixes

Floral prints, abstract prints, paisley prints, tweeds, leathers, faux fur, colorful plaids, and interesting textures mix to create your individual style expression. Prints combine well when they are of the same color family. Plaid shirts.

Learning to adapt patterns so they fit each of our unique bodies will result in clothes that make us look good. Fit for “real” people has always been Pati Palmer’s specialty. McCall’s 5984 – Palmer/Pletsch Classic Fit – The Perfect Wardrobe

Misses lined jackets, skirt and pants, sizes 8-22

    McCalls Pattern M5894

Choose an all-black “City” look for this soft suit or have some fun with a neon bright or jewel-toned jacket mixed with an abstract print skirt. We like the proportions of a wide leg pant worn with a cropped jacket and the cropped style with the sleek fit of a pencil skirt. Accessorize with opaque hosiery, platform pumps or booties.

If your shape is an Inverted Triangle, wide lapels add width to your upper body. Narrow the lapels and collar of the jacket to create more of a vertical line on your upper body.

Softly belt it with an earthy brown leather belt, leave the collar open and add a fur neck ring. Complete your outfit with narrow gray wool flannel pants, brown suede platform pumps and clutch bag. Wear the short version of the jacket to accentuate a small waistline or choose the mid-length version if you need to cover your tummy.

Note: You will need some waistline shape to wear view D dress.

If you have a tummy, choose a darker color for the dress and wear it with the longer jacket.

ALERT: In the next issue of Fashion for Real People, Pati will show how she “perfected” this top and made it her summer wardrobe staple. This pattern is being discontinued in January 2010 so get it now or order it from Palmer/Pletsch as long as we still have stock.
